Bucher CityFlex C40e receives Innovation Award

At Maskiner Under Broen in Middelfart 24-25 August 2022, Bucher Municipal received the Innovation Award 2022, instated by the trade association Maskinleverandørerne.

There were cheers and high-fives for the whole team when Bucher Municipal received the Innovation Award for the Bucher CityFlex C40e – the first electric sewer cleaner, developed for tasks in urban areas.

"Thank you! It is fantastic to have the industry association's recognition for our new CityFlex", says Sales and Service Director Jacob Grindsted, who received the award on behalf of Bucher Municipal. "It means a lot to us, because this shows how important it is to work together when developing environmentally friendly solutions. With the CityFlex C40e, we can reduce CO2 emissions – and at the same time we also create a better working environment for the operator with lower noise, good ergonomics and high safety."

In justification for the award, jury member Michael Nygaard, technical manager from Esbjerg Municipality, emphasizes that usability, safety, ergonomics and the environment are the parameters used when awarding the prize. "It is important to use the new technology to improve the environment – and make everyday life easier. The winner - Bucher CityFlex C40e - combines professional proven technology with great potential, which is important in the future hunt for 0-emission", says Michael Nygaard, on behalf of the jury.

New and proven technology

"We have worked closely with Volvo Trucks on the development of the first electric CityFlex. The result is an efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle that combines Volvo's proven battery technology and Bucher's experience from more than 500 CityFlex sewer cleaners. And yes, it can deliver a whole day's work – and then charge at night," says Jacob Grindsted, who has clearly been asked about the battery's durability several times.

"We cannot sell a sewer cleaner that can only work half a day, so we have to be able to count on the battery technology. And Volvo Trucks is the perfect partner there."

"We have presented several of our environmentally optimized vehicles at the fair, such as the
truck mounted sweeper MaxPowa V65e which is also battery powered. It has just been delivered to Mariager Fjord Municipality, which is at the forefront of the choice of new technology."

The first Bucher CityFlex C40e is on its way to LMJ A/S in Glostrup, Denmark, and it will be put in operation from September in the metropolitan area. "LMJ A/S was the first to place an order in Denmark, and we have more on the way", Jacob Grindsted elaborates, "because once you have tried to drive it and seen how easy it is to charge, the CityFlex C40e is a completely natural choice for tasks to be performed in urban zones"

More to come

"There is an increasing demand for environmentally optimized solutions, especially in new public tenders, and our CityFlex C40e is just the first from Bucher Municipal in Denmark. It is our ambition that by 2025 we can electrify our full line-up."

"Our focus is to develop efficient and environmentally friendly technologies, both using non-fossil fuels and through increased energy efficiency – and I am sure that in the coming years, we will see new technological advances. Our CityFlex C40e is a good example of this", concludes Jacob Grindsted.
