100% performance, 0% emissions - First all electric street sweeping fleet of any London borough
Bucher Municipal are excited to announce that Richmond Council and Continental Landscapes have purchased a number of our CityCat V20e compact sweepers and MaxPowa V65e truck mounted sweepers, making them the owners of the very first fully electric road sweeper fleet in a London borough.
“We are delighted to have the first all electric council fleet within the UK. This is a huge step towards a greener future and by embracing these electric technologies we are showing others what is possible from municipal fleets in the environmental movement. As well as benefitting the environment, these machines significantly impact our local residents in the Richmond area with less noise pollution and lower emissions.” - Marcin Kiraga Contracts Manager at Continental Landscapes
Continental Landscape’s new all electric fleet boasts significantly quieter operations when compared to the diesel alternative, supporting the councils aims through less complaints and less disruptive ‘out of hours’ operations for the local community. Through the innovation and development bought to market by Bucher Municipal, we are pleased to be able to support the business with their Low Carbon initiatives and sustainability targets.
This purchase also allows for more sustainable sweeping operations with zero emissions into the local environment. In addition to our electric machines having zero tailpipe emissions, road sweepers are the only vehicle driving our roads that improve air quality, picking up harmful PM2.5 and PM10 particles and trapping them with the other detritus. With the implementation of fully electric road sweepers, not only do they reduce the amount of harmful particulates in the local environment, but these sweepers produce none of their own.
Alongside the carbon pollution reduction that comes with fully electric vehicles, they also boast significantly lower noise pollution. As in any urban environment, noise pollution is an important factor to consider - especially in more residential areas as sweeping happens most frequently during unsociable hours. Most noise produced by road sweepers come from the fans, however with the electrically powered fan system inside Bucher Municipal machines these levels are much lower. Our compact CityCat V20e machine has a significant reduction in noise levels compared to its diesel counterparts, being reduced from 98dB(A) to only 92 dB(A) during sweeping when the electric version is chosen.
In addition to local community benefits from the Bucher all electric fleet there are other added benefits, including lower total cost of ownership and reduced spend on spare parts (due to electric sweepers having less wearing parts). This is beneficial to the environment as there are fewer items to replace, reducing the amount of manufacturing that goes into a single unit. Not only are there fewer parts but at the end of life, a battery can be fully recycled, ensuring that there is limited waste.
With the globe looking to more greener measures, the steps Continental Landscapes & Richmond Borough Council have taken are a massive benefit for the planet and the future of road cleansing.
